If you find smudged eyeliner and the slightly coked-up look (think the Twilight chick) sexy, then Anna-Catherine Hartley is definitely your brand of hot. Uffie, as she would like to be known, is as an American-born, Hong Kong-raised, Paris-based music artist dabbling in rap, hip-hop, and electronica.
She officially broke into the scene three years ago with Pop the Glock, a single produced by Ed Banger Records. Although it was welcomed with mixed reviews, this song opened the door for her other singles, such as ‘Ready to Uff’ and ‘Hot Chick.’ Subsequently, the track ‘Robot Ouef’ even makes it into the soundtrack of a Pedro Almodovar film starring Penelope Cruz.
Fast-forward to the new decade and her MySpace and Facebook followers are all but salivating for the release of her newest album, one entitled Sex, Dreams and Denim Jeans, this coming February. But will all the anticipation pay off?

Uffie, in her latest single ‘MCs Can Kiss,’ confesses that she is no lyricist, and is instead an entertainer - an entertainer good enough that she ‘ain’t gotta sell sex.’ And though it is very easy to agree that, yes, she is no lyricist, one finds it quite hard to agree with her second point.
Her voice is high-pitched and quite grating on the ears, her rapping skills are amateur at best, and the instrumentation of her songs can get quite repetitious - a far cry from entertaining. And perhaps even she has become aware of this, because if one browses through her Internet photos, it is clear to see that this female rapper has begun to sell sex. Her album title alone is testament to this change of heart.

Is the sex being sold any good? At first glance, it seemingly is. There are few new females making names for themselves in mainstream rap, hip hop, and electronica after all; and Uffie is quite fresh. But once you’ve started undressing the package, it is clear this is going to be a pretty droll ride. You can’t say you weren’t warned though, as the new album title does say it all – her music is much like having sex through denim jeans. A unique experience, sure, but one that will only leave you dissatisfied and even a bit chaffed.
